Privacy Notice

What personal data we collect when you use JML, why we need it, and the choices you have.

Effective 17 October 2026

1. Who is responsible

Jakarta Machine Learning (JML) decides how the personal data described here is used. You can reach us about anything in this notice at [email protected].

2. What we collect

  • Account data: your email address, the identifier of your sign-in, and your community roles.
  • Participation data: the events you register for or attend, the topics you propose, the proposals you support, and the upcoming products (such as JML Chat or Agent nodes) you register interest in, with any note you add.
  • Agreement records: which version of these policies you accepted, and when.
  • Discord account data: if you verify your Discord account, your Discord user ID and username. We ask Discord only to identify you, which does not include your email address or your messages.
  • Security records: an audit log of account and community actions, kept to protect members and investigate misuse.
  • Messages you send us: for example, an email with a question about JML.

We do not ask for, and ask you not to send us, sensitive data such as health, financial, or identity-document details.

3. Why we use it

  • To create your account and let you sign in (needed to provide the service you asked for).
  • To run events and programs: manage seats, show you your registrations, count support for topics, and keep your place on the list for a product that is not open yet (needed to provide the service).
  • To keep the community safe and the platform secure, and to act on reports under the Code of Conduct (our legitimate interest in a safe community).
  • To contact you about your account or an event you registered for (needed to provide the service).
  • To give you the JML Member role on the JML Discord server and check that you still hold it, so a member who leaves or is removed can verify again (needed to provide the service).
  • To apply moderation decisions across JML: a ban from the JML Discord server suspends your JML account, and lifting the ban restores it (our legitimate interest in a safe community).

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.

4. Cookies

We set one essential cookie, jml_session, to keep you signed in. Browser scripts cannot read it, and it expires after one hour. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

5. Who we share it with

  • Service providers that host the platform and authenticate accounts for us, under agreements that limit them to our instructions. Some may store data outside Indonesia.
  • JML organisers and moderators, who see only what they need to run events and handle conduct reports, including which Discord account is linked to which JML account.
  • Authorities, when the law requires it.

Discord is a separate service. When you join the JML Discord server, Discord Inc. handles your data under its own privacy policy, and what you post there is visible to other members of the server. When you verify your Discord account, Discord tells us your user ID and username, and our Discord bot checks whether you are in the JML server, whether you hold the JML Member role, and whether you are banned. We do not read or store your Discord messages.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your data while your account is open. When you close it, we delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except for records we must keep for security, dispute resolution, or legal reasons. Your verified Discord account stays linked while your account is open; email us to unlink it sooner.

7. Your rights

Under Indonesian personal data protection law (Law No. 27 of 2022), you can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal data we hold about you and give you a copy;
  • correct data that is wrong or out of date;
  • delete your data and close your account;
  • stop or limit a use of your data, or withdraw a consent you gave.

Email [email protected] from the address on your account. We will respond within the period the law sets.

8. Security

We limit access to personal data to the people who need it, encrypt connections to the platform, and log privileged actions. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your data, we will notify you as the law requires.

9. Changes to this notice

When we make a material change, we will ask you to review the new version the next time you sign in. The date at the top of this page shows the version in force.
