Effective 17 October 2026
Our pledge
JML exists so that people can learn machine learning and artificial intelligence together. We pledge to make taking part a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, disability, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.
What we expect
- Be respectful and kind. Assume good intent, and disagree with ideas rather than people.
- Welcome newcomers. Answer the question that was asked, and never mock someone for not knowing something.
- Give and accept constructive feedback gracefully. Own your mistakes, apologise, and learn from them.
- Share generously and honestly. Credit other people's work, and say when content is AI-generated or when you have a commercial interest in what you recommend.
- Keep discussions on topic and in the right channel, and prefer public threads so everyone can learn from the answer.
- Write in Bahasa Indonesia or English, so that moderators and most members can follow.
What is not acceptable
- Harassment, intimidation, threats, stalking, or sustained disruption of discussions or events.
- Hate speech, slurs, or demeaning comments about who someone is.
- Sexualised language or imagery, and unwelcome sexual attention or advances of any kind.
- Trolling, insults, personal or political attacks, and deliberately inflammatory posts.
- Publishing someone's private information, such as an address, phone number, or private messages, without their explicit permission.
- Spam, unsolicited advertising, and unsolicited recruiting or sales pitches in direct messages. Share jobs and products only in the channels set aside for them.
- Sharing confidential, proprietary, or personal data, including in datasets, prompts, or model outputs.
- Plagiarism, pirated material, malware, or help with academic dishonesty or unlawful activity.
- Evading a moderation decision, for example by returning on another account.
Where this applies
This code applies in every JML space: the Discord server (including direct messages that follow from it), the JML website, talks, classes, meetups, and mentorship sessions, online and in person. It also applies when you represent JML in public. On Discord, the Discord Community Guidelines and Terms of Service apply as well.
Reporting a problem
If you experience or witness behaviour that breaks this code, report it as soon as you can. You can message a moderator privately on Discord, or email [email protected]. Tell us what happened, where, and when, and include links or screenshots if you have them.
- Reports are reviewed promptly and fairly, and handled confidentially. We do not reveal who made a report without their consent.
- Retaliating against someone who reports in good faith is itself a violation.
- A moderator who is involved in an incident takes no part in deciding it.
- If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first.
How we enforce it
Moderators choose the response that fits the seriousness and impact of the behaviour:
- Correction. A private note explaining what went wrong and what to do differently. A public apology may be requested.
- Warning. A formal warning with the consequences of continuing. Content may be removed.
- Temporary suspension. Removal from JML spaces for a set period, for a serious or repeated violation.
- Permanent ban. Removal from all JML spaces for a pattern of violations, harassment of an individual, or aggression toward or disparagement of groups of people.
Serious cases can go straight to suspension or a ban. If you think a decision was wrong, you can appeal once by emailing [email protected] within 14 days; someone who was not involved in the original decision will review it.
Agreeing to this code
Members agree to this code before joining the JML Discord forum. When it changes materially, we ask members to review and agree to the new version.

This Code of Conduct is adapted from the Contributor Covenant, version 2.1, which is licensed under CC BY 4.0. The enforcement steps follow Mozilla's code of conduct enforcement ladder.
